We’re supposed to be done

our connection permanently severed

so why is it when we barely speak for days at a time

and we talk briefly

you say I’ve been on  your mind?

Why do I feel the times we’re not talking

I feel the same bond despite words?

I want to forget our friendship

to banish you to the deepest and most closed parts of my heart

but you keep rising to the surface

and I fight to keep a smile from dancing across my lips

when I think about something you said, did or wrote

You’ve got someone in your life who loves you

and can give you what you need

so why can’t you let her in

and to wisdom take heed?

Some people think that every connection

is about romance

or finance

with a man or woman

but the truth is that what I feel for you

doesn’t fit either category

but it is still real love…..
